On today’s episode of Bisaya Buddy, we are going to the Bukid! What? You don’t know what the Bukid is? Just watch the video and you will soon learn!

Don’t worry, going to the Bukid is fun, you’ll have a great time, I am sure. Some of the people you will find in the Bukid are fun, and “salt of the earth” type of folks.

Some of the most fun I’ve had in the Philippines was in the Bukid, and I always enjoy going back again and again. We have some good friends who live in the Bukid that we like to go visit. One of those good friends is Father Franco and Italian Priest who has been living in the Philippines for nearly 50 years already. Father Franco has a farm in the Bukid and he prepares all kinds of specialty foods in an effort to help the Indigenous people in the Bukid, and he is very successful at that!

I have seen so many interesting things in the Bukid. Sometimes you will see cockfights right along the road. You will almost always see people riding horses on the highway or out in the fields. One thing I always watch for in the Bukid is what I call a “Kanobao” – an albino Carabao! These are always fun to see.

Filipinos are used to having pets at home and they treat it as their own family as well. It is pretty obvious if you try to visit some of the Filipino households. I am a pet lover as well but among all those animals, I love cats the most.

Cats are undeniably cute especially when it is a furry one! Kids used to love furry and cute animals because of the comfort it gives to humans.

Animals are adorable in some ways. Maybe that’s the reason why most Filipinos love animals a lot. But how about you? Do you also love to take care of domestic animals at home and love them as your best friends?

Aside from making animals as your best friends, they can also be of good use in various purposes. Few of the animals in the Philippines helps humans earn a living through the different talents and skills that they can contribute to their owners. That is actually amusing!

Animals are not just simply animals. Why don’t you try indulge yourselves to animals. More importantly, don’t forget to visit the Philippines and see how awesome they animals in the Philippines are! You’ll surely realize that animals are amazing. You can discover it yourself.

Personal Greetings in the Philippines

Well, I am starting something new today, and it is my intention to do it on the website every Saturday (Philippine time). I am going to be giving Bisaya (Cebuano) mini-lessons every week!

I learned to speak Bisaya back from 2006 through 2011 from a local tutor, and very close friend, Bebe Metillo. Bebe is like a sister to me, and she spent a lot of time and effort in teaching me the language. I can say, the work that I put into it paid off with a happy life in the Philippines, and knowing the language has offered me many opportunities too!

Because I have enjoyed knowing the language so much, I want to help others to learn as well. Even if you don’t take the time to learn to be fluent in Bisaya knowing just a little bit will help you become more accepted into Philippine Society, and help you enjoy your life here. I know it has done that for me!

Bisaya is what they call Cebuano in Mindanao. So, that is what I call it. In the Visayas, there are variations of Cebuano in different regions, but knowing Cebuano, Bisaya will be helpful to you if you are visiting or living anywhere in the Visayas or Mindanao. If you will be in Luzon, you probably should think about learning Tagalog to get the great benefits of knowing the language. Sorry, I don’t speak Tagalog, so I can’t be of help to you there!

If you enjoy these mini-lessons, come back to LiP weekly and pick up a new one! Or you can visit my YouTube Channel (please subscribe, and click on the “bell” logo so you get updates).
